Reclaiming Your Story:
Outsider Witnessing Groups
A virtual community space to affirm your preferred identity and connect through shared values.
A virtual community space to affirm your preferred identity and connect through shared values.
This 10-person virtual group offers a structured and collaborative environment rooted in Narrative Therapy. We believe that identity is not formed in isolation, but is shaped by the stories we tell and the relationships that sustain them.
Group Logistics:
Format: 100% Virtual (Secure Video Platform).
Capacity: Limited to 10 participants to ensure intimacy and depth.
Individual Support: Each participant receives a private, one-hour preparatory session with the therapist.
Group Structure: Over the course of the group, each member will have a dedicated time to be centered while others listen and respond as witnesses, and will also take part in witnessing others’ stories
"Identity is created and sustained through our relationships with others."
Outsider Witnessing is a core practice in Narrative Therapy that helps individuals connect ideas generated in therapy to the broader context of their lives. In this group, each member will have the opportunity to be centered in a witnessing ceremony.
Collaborating to string a story
As a member of the group, you will have the opportunity to meet individually with the therapist facilitating the group. This session is a space to collaboratively reflect on which story you may wish to share with the community of shared experience.
The Telling
We believe that preferred stories grow stronger when they are shared beyond individual therapy.
The Telling is when one person shares their story with a group of witnesses who have shared experience and are there to listen, not to judge or advise.
The Retelling
An Outsider Witness is NOT a passive participant. With the therapist's guidance, audience members are invited to reflect and share how the story resonates with their lives.
The person at the center of the story assumes the role of witness, observing the impact of their narrative on others.
The Retelling of the Retelling
Then, we switch roles once more. This thoughtful process of moving back and forth between witness and speaker weaves our stories together, finding connections in our lives through shared themes and values.
For many people, the concerns they have about their lives contribute to a sense of isolation from others who may otherwise hold special significance.
Participating in this process offers unique benefits for both the person being centered and those witnessing:
For the Centered Individual: Strengthen your sense of self and receive public acknowledgment of your values and aspirations.
For the Witnesses: Connect with shared human values and contribute your own knowledge to a collective understanding of growth.
For the Community: Move away from isolated struggle toward a mutual sense of acknowledgment and belonging.
Each member of the group will be given opportunities to act as a witness and to be centered.
