Limited Openings
With curiosity, creativity, and compassion, Madison works alongside you to co-create a space where you feel comfortable and empowered to explore what you want your life to look like, what is currently getting in the way, and which practices invite more alignment and possibility! Madison believes in centering the lived experience of each person, while acknowledging the effects that society and larger systems have on individuals.
Trauma • Grief • Spiritual or Creative Practices • Life Transitions • Identity Exploration (including but not limited to as Queerness/LBTQIA+, Chronic Illness/Disability, and Neurodiversity)
To me, the therapeutic space is a place to intentionally imagine, create, connect, and reflect on the life that you want to be living. To do this, we will practice acceptance and awareness, gather data about your life, draw from our lived experience, knowledge, and resources, and explore ways to create distance from problems. Ultimately, I will support you in re-authoring and re-claiming your preferred narrative: a life with more alignment, connection, possibility, and aliveness!
While this often looks like me asking you generative questions, which is an active form of re-imagining and re-shaping our minds, bodies, narratives, and worldview, there are so many ways to re-author our stories, practice distance from problems, and create more paths towards alignment with our values.
Art making or other creative practices
Mindfulness, movement, or somatic exercises
Drawing from nature, indigenous wisdom, or spiritual practices
Using shared documents to make lists, gather data, and share resources
Sometimes inviting or evoking the presence of trusted people, animals, our beloved dead, or other supports into the space
Exploring other reflective practices such as journaling, tarot, astrology, or vision boards
While I am happy to nerd out about the Narrative Therapy paradigm, these are some ways that NT will show up in our work together:
Centering your lived experience, deferring to what you want in your life and our work together, and staying grounded in curiosity
Being transparent and collaborative in setting expectations and intentions for our work together with regularly check in about what is working or not
Returning to “the person is NOT the problem, the Problem is the Problem”
Co-create a space where you feel safe, respected, empowered, comfortable, and heard
Collaboratively identifying your values, commitments, hopes and dreams
Re-claim, re-author, and re-imagine your narrative to center choice, possibility, and alignment with your values
Exploring ways to practice and integrate your preferred narrative inside and outside of therapy, identify the people, skills, and resources that will support you
Acknowledging the effects of systemic, societal, generational, familial, and cultural expectations and narratives
Inviting humor, humanity, creativity, flexibility, mindfulness, the body, emotional experiencing, imagination, spirituality, grief, anger, imperfection, structure, connection, or whatever else may support you into the space. Not being limited by what we’re told therapy “should” be!
While I grew up in a rural town in New England, I have lived with my partner and our pets in the Greater Boston Area for the past decade. In addition to being a therapist, I am a social worker and artist. I’m also queer, white, chronically ill, and neurodivergent. Outside of work, I love to learn and have many interests, including being in nature (especially water), reading fiction and fantasy, painting, yoga, volleyball, fiber arts, home decor, tarot, resting, cooking, good coffee, gardening, and being with friends and family!
I have been on the path to becoming a therapist for most of my life, thanks to following in the footsteps of my grandmother and life mentor, who was a therapist, social worker, artist, and iconoclast. In my journey to find a therapeutic grounding that aligned with my values and interests, I trained in a variety of settings and approaches including case management, direct community support, clinical research, group therapy, an expressive art day treatment program, and a hospital outpatient clinic.
After years of searching, I was ecstatic to discover and become grounded in Narrative Therapy! NT very much aligns with my values and commitment to: equity, empowerment, connection, creativity, curiosity, and an anti-oppressive, decolonial, systems approach.
